Detox green smoothies are the best way to start the new year. While I am not one for resolutions, there is nothing wrong with pledging to eat better in 2018. And this New Year detox green smoothie will help you do just that.

New Year Detox Green Smoothie

The word detox gets a bad rap because of how loosely it has been used in marketing by the health and fitness industry in the past. In this case, I am not using detox in the literal sense of the word – Google it – I am using it to denote supporting your body with nourishing and metabolism boosting foods. I think your body does a mighty fine job of flushing out ‘toxins’ and it kind of exasperates me to see smoothie recipes that claim to do this.

What makes this smoothie so healthy?

I wanted to make a smoothie which included foods that were both nutrient dense and filling. This smoothie has a fun mix of mint, spinach and bananas (all the fruits and greens) as well as coconut water, green tea and protein powder.

Green tea has a wealth of health benefits which you can read all about here and here while coconut water is packed with electrolytes and helps to create a sweet smoothie.

I chose Protein World’s Slender Blend protein powder (read my review of Protein World here) to up the nutrients even more and to add in a healthy dose of protein to keep you nice and satiated until lunch.

This smoothie makes a tasty and filling breakfast as well as a great post-workout smoothie due to it’s combo of muscle repairing protein and carbohydrates to replenish your glycogen store.

Recipe for the New Year Detox Green Smoothie

  • Half cup sliced and frozen bananas
  • 1/2 cup green tea (chilled)
  • 1 tbsp chopped mint
  • Handful of spinach (approx. 1/2 cup packed)
  • 8 fl. oz. Coconut water (I used Harmless Harvest)
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I like Protein World)

Simply put all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth, about 1-2 minutes. Pour into glasses and serve cold.

Recipe will make 2 small smoothies or one big smoothie. Can add honey for extra sweetness but will increase caloric value of smoothie.

How Will You Pledge To Go Healthy in 2018?

I want to know what your health goals are for 2018 so I can help you achieve them! Mine are to continue tracking my macros (getting better at it although it’s still a struggle to hit my protein intake), to eat more seasonal vegetables, and to create more healthy recipes to share on Honestly Fitness. I’m confident I can hit them and I am excited to see how this year goes!

Honestly yours,
Alice
