**Update: Unfortunately Salt Burn Studios have gone out of business. You can go to Peak45 for a megaformer workout in SLC now**

The last time I tried a megaformer workout was about three years ago in Orange County, California. I assumed that the workout would be similar to a pilates reformer workout, but boy was I wrong–it’s like pilates reformer on crack! I received an exciting email a couple of weeks ago letting me know that Salt Lake City no had it’s very first megaformer studio, Salt Burn Studios.

What is Megaformer exactly?

So, the megaformer is the name of the actual piece of equipment that you do the workout on. The workout is based on the Lagree Fitness method; you workout on the megaformer for 50 minutes for a cardio and strength based workout which can burn up to 500-800 calories per session. The great thing about this workout is that even though it is low impact (i.e. you won’t destroy your joints from doing it), it is high-intensity and will have you dripping absolute buckets of sweat. I went with two friends and we were all struggling! There’s a reason that celebs such as Chrissy Teigen, Sofia Vergara and Brooke Burke can’t get enough of the megaformer workout.

What can I expect from my visit to Salt Burn Studios?

Devin and Bryan own the studio and are very warm and welcoming! You can expect them to give you a thorough explanation of how to use the megaformer, where you can adjust the weight of the springs as needed, and pointers on your form throughout the workout. It’s recommended that you wear some grip socks, which are on sale at the studio, or you can do the workout barefoot.

Every session is different, but expect to start off with some core work. And no, we aren’t talking about crunches; we are talking dynamic core exercises that literally work every muscle in your core. My abs were still sore four days later which was insane!

We also did some leg and butt work, which involved insanely hard lunge pulses which had you praying for the move to be over! We finished the workout up with some upper body work which involved tricep moves using the straps on the megaformer in addition to some chest work. I made a short video to demonstrate the experience of visiting Salt Burn Studios below, but unfortunately, my camera ran out of space just a few minutes into the workout! But you know what that means; you’ll have to check it out yourself 🙂

Where is Salt Burn Studios?

The studios are actually in Draper, which is a little south of Salt Lake City, and right off the freeway. It didn’t take long for me to get to at all but I am hoping that they open up a location closer to home. The actual physical address is  11483 South State Street, Draper, UT  84020, which you can put into Google Maps.

Honestly Fitness Approved!

I absolutely loved the workout and can’t wait to go back and bring more friends with me! I have no doubt that their megaformer workout will soon be the talk of the town–it’s just a matter of getting people to try it out so that they get a taste of how much of a killer workout it is. Check out their schedule on their website (click on “book classes”) and be sure to give their Instagram some love.

If you’re local to the Salt Lake City area and want to try it out, but don’t want to go alone, them let me know by either commenting below or asking me on my Instagram. Seriously, I will go with you. Just let me know when (and not Saturday mornings haha)!

Honestly yours,
Alice
